Bespoke plywood kitchen in Exeter, Devon
A mid century modern kitchen for Tom & Lucy — Exeter, Devon
Tom and Lucy came to me to design their new kitchen in Exeter as part of their larger extension project. With a love of mid century design, i leaned on the styles and colours from this era to guide the vision for their kitchen, without becoming a pastiche.
Oak cabinets paired with green laminate doors and terracotta tiles reference the warm, natural tones and clean geometry that define mid-century interiors. The true handleless top pull keeps the cabinet faces uninterrupted and all appliances and bins are fully integrated, disappearing into the run entirely. A large wall-hung sliding cabinet echos the era’s love of considered, space-conscious storage — functional with form.
The large kitchen peninsula, with occasional seating acts as a gentle bridge between the kitchen and living area, defining each space without dividing them. It works just as well for perching on with a morning coffee as it does preparing a meal. A beautiful terrazzo worktop pulls together the colours in the oak, the green, and tiles in a single surface — and gives the whole kitchen an unmistakable focal point.

What Tom & Lucy said
“James took us through the process of finessing our initial kitchen design and was was very knowledgable in guiding us and considerate to our goals. The final kitchen is beautifully made and a joy to be in and use. All the fitters and worktop suppliers have all also praised the quality of the kitchen cabinetry. His friendly and accommodating business has made the whole process an enjoyable journey.“
